Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries Addresses Tremendous Need Through Operation-Save-a-Family

October 4, 2022: – Over 300 filled Atlanta Tech Park in Peachtree Corners, GA last Thursday evening, as the Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries hosted Celebration 2022, exceeding their fundraising goal amidst unprecedented times.  The organization’s focus for this event, “Operation Save a Family,” is an initiative to support the increased number of families putting the pieces back together in their lives after Covid-19 pandemic assistance programs ended. Many local families are continuing to struggle to keep basic needs met, and the climate is magnified by the particularly high rent costs in Gwinnett county.  NCM has expanded their space and services to accommodate the growing community need through a comprehensive approach.

Attendees were cheerfully welcomed and given a glowing synopsis of NCM accomplishments by Board Chairwoman Elizabeth Gross.  Development Director Ryan Jones  followed, delivering a message of hope, inspiring event attendees committed to serving others to continue the fight.  “We are grateful for the abundant support from our community-  the financial generosity, our hard-working Board of Directors, dedicated staff and incredible volunteers,” noted Jones.  “As NCM navigates this journey to help those in crisis right on our own backyard, having such a large pool of committed support makes a huge difference.”

Following Jones’ remarks, fundraising guru Dean Crownover engaged attendees in raising funds through an entertaining and educational silent and live auction, raffle, and paddle raise challenge.  The tremendous respect for the organization’s great work was abundantly clear as the crowd enthusiastically participated with infectious generosity.  Thursday evening’s event is the largest event NCM has ever hosted, bringing in over $317,000 in to directly benefit local families.  “The reality is we will continue to see challenges in the months ahead,” explains NCM board chairwoman Elizabeth Gross.  “Local families are struggling to stay housed which then causes an escalation of other issues.  Our local community needs NCM more than ever and we want to have the resources to help.”

Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries provides food, clothing, utilities assistance, job fairs and other services at their location on Pinnacle Court in Norcross.  “Over these last 2 years, the ministry has seen more clients than ever before since our beginning 30 years ago.  Virtually overnight during the Covid pandemic, our clients increased by over 500% and food distribution increased by over 700%. The Co-Op was forced to pivot to drive-thru assistance but remained open and has continued to service the increased need in our area.  We could not have done it without the generosity of our donors, committed volunteers, and our incredibly courageous staff, ” praises Shirley Cabe, NCM Executive Director.  “Businesses, organizations, churches and individuals all continue to work together in this collaborative effort as we grow and adapt to community needs.”
